Hotel Komune Resort & Beach Club sits on the black volcanic sand at Keramas, on Bali's east coast in Gianyar, directly in front of the Keramas reef: a fast, barrelling right-hander that has hosted the World Surf League Championship Tour and holds from fun 2 ft waves up to 10 ft barrels. Several other reefs are within walking distance, including Car Park (100 m), KFC (400 m) and Cucukan (800 m), with Sanur and Serangan within an hour's drive.
Komune is best known for its permanent night-surfing set-up: floodlights over the Keramas reef let surfers book a session after dark, with numbers capped at six surfers a night, and the lights run from 7 pm to midnight and again from 4 am to 6 am. The beach club looks straight onto the wave, so non-surfers can watch the action from the pool or the bar.
Keramas is a powerful reef suited mainly to intermediate and experienced surfers. The resort offers private coaching, group lessons and board hire, and its surf guides advise on session times and equipment for the day's conditions; beginners are taken to gentler beaches nearby, with lessons arranged through the Surfers Warung. Accommodation ranges from 4-star rooms and suites to beachfront pool suites and one- to three-bedroom villas, alongside a health hub, recovery centre, spa, daily classes, a kids' club and skatepark.
The resort doesn't publish fixed lesson prices online. Book rooms through its website and contact the resort by phone or WhatsApp to arrange coaching or a night-surf slot. Keramas is at its most consistent from April to October, with offshore winds in the mornings.
