G-Land Bobby's Surf Camp

Bobby's Surf Camp calls itself the first surf camp built at G-Land, the long left-hand reef at Plengkung Beach on the south-east tip of Java. It sits on the eastern shore of Grajagan Bay inside Alas Purwo National Park, a jungle reserve in Banyuwangi, and has been operating for more than 40 years. The booking office is in Tuban, Bali, and guests travel to camp either by fast boat from Bali on scheduled boat days or by overland transfer, which leaves the day before check-in.

Packages are priced per person by room type. Standard rooms (32 m², twin share, private bathroom) cost USD 720 for 4 days/3 nights, USD 1,010 for 7 days/6 nights and USD 1,340 for 10 days/9 nights. Deluxe rooms (36 m², with a terrace) run from USD 850 to USD 1,510, and Superior rooms (45 m², hot showers, minibar, TV and room service) from USD 980 to USD 1,840. A two-storey VIP room for families or groups is priced on enquiry. Longer stays are quoted on request, a USD 200 deposit secures a booking, and the camp publishes its boat schedule and monthly tide charts on its website.

G-Land is a fast, powerful reef wave for experienced surfers, and the camp does not advertise lessons. Meals are served à la carte with vegetarian options, wifi covers the camp, and on flat days the team can arrange snorkelling, fishing, trail running and trips into the national park, including the Sadengan savanna and Kawah Ijen volcano.
