Nyangko Surf School

Nyangko Surf School is run by Nyangko, a certified Balinese surf instructor and guide who teaches in Canggu, mainly at Batu Bolong and Berawa Beach. Depending on the swell and tide, he picks whichever of the two beaches suits your level best on the day, and lessons can run any time between 6am and 6pm.

Each two-hour lesson starts with surf theory on the beach before heading into the water, and includes a good-quality surfboard, rash guard, zinc, a water bottle and transport to the beach within the Canggu area. Options include private beginner lessons, private coaching for intermediate and advanced surfers on unbroken waves, semi-private lessons for two, group lessons, and private-only lessons for children aged four and up.

Because the same instructor can take you from your first whitewater wave through to turns on the green face, it's a good choice for anyone staying in Canggu for a while and wanting steady progress. More experienced surfers can also book guiding to try new spots. Prices start from IDR 350,000 for group and semi-private lessons and IDR 400,000 for private lessons; bookings are made via WhatsApp.
