Santai Surf School is a local family business founded in 2012 by Gede Adnyana, an ASI Level 3 surf coach who also holds surf rescue and first aid qualifications. It teaches on Double Six Beach, the stretch of sand where Legian meets Seminyak, whose sandy-bottomed beach break is one of the gentler places in south Bali to learn. The school is listed by the Academy of Surfing Instructors (ASI) as an accredited learn-to-surf school, its small team of instructors are ASI accredited, and guest insurance is included.
Lessons run as small-group or private sessions for beginners, with intermediate and progression coaching on Double Six itself. Advanced sessions move to other Bali breaks depending on the swell. Groups are kept small, and families, kids, school groups and corporate groups can all be catered for, with sessions tailored to the time available and the surfers' level. The school also offers surf guiding and board rental, and there are beach chairs, umbrellas and refreshments at its spot on the beach, with cafés along the beach road behind.
Santai has a long record of positive reviews, with well over a thousand on TripAdvisor and a 4.8 rating on Google. It doesn't publish a price list online: contact the school by phone or WhatsApp, or through its Facebook page, to check current lesson prices and book a time to suit the tide.
