Surf Go Where

Seminyak

Seminyak sits immediately north of Legian on Bali's south-west coast, and the same long sandy beach that starts at Kuta continues past it. The waves here are beach breaks over sand, shifting with the banks, which makes Seminyak a sensible place for beginners and improvers who prefer a more upmarket base than Kuta. The main surfing stretches are around Double Six, the beach in front of the Seminyak hotels and further north towards Petitenget. Peaks are scattered, so crowds spread out, though the waves can close out on bigger swells and rip currents are common. The best conditions are in the dry season from April to October, when south-east trade winds blow offshore and south-west swell is consistent. Early mornings are cleanest year round. During the wet season from November to March, westerly winds tend to blow onshore by late morning. Seminyak is around 20 to 40 minutes from Ngurah Rai Airport and close to both Kuta and Canggu, so it is easy to combine lessons here with trips to other breaks. Many schools collect students from their hotels and take them to whichever beach has the best conditions that day. The area suits couples, families and beginners who want good restaurants and hotels within walking distance of the beach. Browse the surf schools and lesson providers listed in Seminyak below.
