Malibu Surf School Bali

Malibu Surf School Bali is based at Balangan Beach on the west side of the Bukit Peninsula, with its meeting point at Maria Cafe on the beach and an office on Jalan Pantai Balangan. Its instructors are local surfers, and the school usually teaches at Balangan itself, moving to nearby spots such as Jimbaran, Kuta, Dreamland and Nusa Dua when the swell is too big.

Beginners work through three levels, from the basics of paddling and the pop-up to catching broken waves and then unbroken green waves. Three intermediate levels then cover trimming, turns, cutbacks, duck diving and positioning in the line-up. Lessons are taught privately, semi-privately or in family and group sessions of three or four people, and there are kids' lessons for ages 7 to 13 as well as longboard lessons.

Experienced surfers can book surf guiding around the Bukit's reef breaks, which range from Balangan's long left to Padang Padang and Uluwatu. Prices and lesson lengths aren't published online, so contact the school by phone, Instagram or its website form to book.
