Kandui Villas

Kandui Villas is a luxury surf resort in the Playgrounds area of the northern Mentawai Islands, founded in 2007 by the original founders of the neighbouring Kandui Resort (the two are separate businesses). It sits directly in front of Kandui Left and Baby Kandui, with around a dozen waves off its own island and others around Nyang-Nyang, Mainuk and Karangniki islands between 5 and 30 minutes away by boat. Its fleet of three speedboats and four dinghies runs daily from four docks, so guests surf on their own timetable rather than a fixed boat schedule.

Guests stay in ten hand-carved Mentawai-style umas (nine doubles and one triple), each about 7.5 by 10.5 metres with two king beds downstairs, a loft, air conditioning and hot water, around a swimming pool, restaurant, bar, gym and yoga room and organic garden. The resort works for experienced surfers, couples, families and non-surfers alike.

Beginners learn at Kya's, Kanna's, Inside 4 Bobs and Baby Kandui, which stay small even when the swell is big elsewhere, plus Bikinis, Malibu Right and A-Frames five minutes away. Its surf instructor teaches 2-hour lessons (30 to 45 minutes on the beach, then over an hour in the water) at USD 250 per person including a soft-top, run only when the tide and swell suit. The rental quiver has around 15 Resin8 performance boards, Firewires, PU boards and longboards; SUPs and kayaks are free to use.

Trips run on set 10- and 11-night schedules. Published 2026 rates are USD 5,000 for a single surfer for 10 nights (USD 500 per extra night), USD 9,000 for two surfers sharing an uma and USD 4,000 for a non-surfer, plus 11% tax and 10% service. Packages include meals, snacks, WiFi, unlimited boat surfing to nearby islands, Padang airport-hotel-port transfers and the IDR 2,000,000 Mentawai surf tax; the boat from Padang (about 3 hours by speedboat or 3.5 hours by the Mentawai Fast ferry), hotel nights in Padang and bar drinks are extra. 2027 schedules are already published.
