Togat Nusa Retreat is a small surf and yoga retreat on Pitojat, a private island off the northern end of Sipora in the Mentawai Islands, now in its second decade of hosting guests. It takes only 8 to 10 guests at a time in thatched island bungalows, so the line-up and the dinner table stay small.
The front-yard wave is Scarecrows, a long left suited to a wide range of abilities, and several other quality breaks are a short boat ride away: Telescopes, a long, fairly forgiving left of 200 metres and more; Icelands, a powerful big-swell left for experienced surfers; Suicides, a right over shallow reef; and 7 Palms, a mellower reef used on smaller days. The retreat is aimed at surfers who can already catch and ride waves: it does not advertise beginner lessons, and its coaching and video analysis are for intermediate surfers and charged separately. Daily yoga is part of the stay.
Trips run as fixed all-inclusive packages covering accommodation, meals, tea, coffee and water, boat trips to the surf, yoga, kayaks, SUPs and snorkelling gear, laundry, Starlink internet and transfers from Padang airport via hotel, ferry and Tua Pejat. The published 2027 early-booking rates are USD 2,260 per person for 10 days and 9 nights and USD 2,485 for 11 days and 10 nights (10% off when booked by 31 December 2026). The Mentawai surf tax of IDR 2,000,000 per surfer, board bag charges on the ferry, board hire (IDR 150,000 a day), speedboat day charters to Playgrounds or HT's, cold drinks, massages and photo packages are extra.
Guests need to spend the night before the trip in Padang, and a night afterwards is recommended because the return ferry arrives late. Dates and availability are shown on the retreat's online calendar, and bookings are made by email at togatnusaretreat@gmail.com.
