San Juan Surf Resort opened in 1992 as a three-room guesthouse built by Australian Brian Landrigan and has grown into a 43-room beachfront hotel in Urbiztondo, San Juan. The resort's surf school was founded in 2003 by his son, Fil-Australian pro surfer Luke Landrigan, an ISA Level 2 coach and Level 3 judge with Surf Life Saving Australia rescue and CPR qualifications.
Lessons are booked by the hour with an instructor on the Urbiztondo beach break directly in front of the resort, with advanced sessions offered as surf guiding. Board rental is available by the hour, half day or full day, alongside stand-up paddleboards, kayaks, bodyboards and skimboards. The school runs an internationally accredited instructor training programme and an outreach programme for children with special needs through SPED La Union.
Rooms range from ocean-view to condo-style units, and Coast Call Kitchen and Bar serves local and international food on site, with a surf shop stocking beachwear and gear. It suits first-timers and families who want a well-known school with accommodation a few steps from the water.
