Enjoy Surf School

Enjoy Surf School is based right at Whiskey Point, the sandy right-hander north of Arugam Bay near Pottuvil that is one of the area's most popular waves for learners and improvers. The school is run by a local team with ISA-certified instructors and has its own beachside restaurant for meals after a session.

Group and private lessons both last 90 minutes and include a surfboard, rash vest and drinking water, with group lessons priced from US$20 per class. The 5-day surf camp, from US$299 for one person, combines five lessons with five nights in a fan-cooled double room, breakfast, three yoga classes, a photo and video analysis session, a lagoon safari and transport.

Whiskey Point works best during the east coast season from roughly May to October. The school takes surfers of all levels, but the gentle beach break and simple surf camp set-up make it a particularly good fit for beginners and budget-minded travellers who want to stay away from the busier main village.
