Whisky Point Resort is a laid-back glamping resort set directly on the beach at Whisky Point, around seven minutes' walk from Pottuvil Point and a short tuk tuk ride north of Arugam Bay's main bay. Guests stay in cabanas and a pagoda-style room, and the resort also runs a cafe restaurant, yoga classes, a mini gym and an ice and hot bath.
Surf coaching is led by local ISA-certified instructors who also act as beach lifeguards. A single 90-minute private lesson costs US$40 including equipment, and surf camp packages of 3, 5 and 10 days combine 1.5-hour coaching sessions with wet and dry theory classes, all equipment, a rash vest to keep, surf photos and video feedback, transport to the surf and yoga classes. The team also organises surf trips to other breaks in the area depending on level and conditions.
The east coast season runs from about April to October, when Whisky Point and Pottuvil Point are at their most consistent. The resort suits surfers who want a quieter, nature-focused base with surf, yoga and recovery in one place, and caters for complete beginners as well as more experienced surfers.
