Saltwater Dreaming Surf School

Saltwater Dreaming has been teaching people to surf in Phuket for more than two decades from its surf shop in Cherng Talay. Lessons are held on Bang Tao Beach next to the Best Western Bang Tao Beach Resort, a long sandy beach with plenty of room and softer waves than the island's reef breaks.

All lessons last two hours and include a soft beginner board and rash guard. Sessions start with a beach safety briefing and pop-up practice on the sand before in-water coaching. Small-group lessons are the cheapest option, with a 5-day group programme for those who want to progress, while private lessons and a private 5-day programme suit nervous beginners or surfers wanting tailored coaching. Kids under ten are taught with extra instructor support.

The surf season usually runs from May to October. Saltwater Dreaming suits first-timers, families and improving beginners, and the shop also offers board rental, repairs and regular Phuket surf reports.
